Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-09-10
This Privacy Policy explains what information GameOfChess collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
- Account information — name, username, email, country, and chess experience level you provide at signup.
- Gameplay data — moves, game results, ratings, and related history for games you play while signed in. Guest games (Play vs Computer without an account) are never stored — they exist only in your browser for that session.
- Technical data — basic request metadata (e.g. IP address) used for security, rate limiting, and abuse prevention.
- Payment data — if you make a purchase, payment details are handled directly by our payment processor; we do not store your card details.
2. How we use your information
- To operate core features: authentication, matchmaking, ratings, and game history.
- To send account-related email (verification, password reset, security alerts).
- To detect and prevent abuse, cheating, and fraud.
- To improve the Service (e.g. understanding which features are used).
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in (an httpOnly session cookie and a non-sensitive flag used only to detect that a session exists). We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies at this time.
4. Sharing
We share information only with service providers that help us run the Service (e.g. email delivery, payment processing), and only to the extent necessary for them to perform that function. We may disclose information if required by law.
5. Data retention
We retain account and gameplay data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by contacting us.
6. Your choices
You can update your profile information at any time from your account settings, and can request account deletion or a copy of your data by contacting us.
7. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted here.
9. Contact
